Semi Independence Accommodations

SIS and SIS LIFE will provide high quality accommodation and support for young adults aged 16 to 21 years, who are leaving care and young adults aged 16 to 24 years with mild to moderate learning needs or a mental health disorder. BE College will provide education, training and enterprise opportunities for residents and external students. The College has an independent statement of Purpose and Function that is available on request.


The service provides Short Term Respite, Long Term and Emergency accommodation and support for young adult who are unable as yet, practically or emotionally ready to cope on their own.


The services provided by SIS focus on meeting the individual needs of young adult and adults at risk within a nurturing and supportive environment; the programme of Independent Living is designed to encourage and challenge young adult at adults at risk to reach their fullest potential. 

SIS LIFE will provde:


  • Quality support to young adult and adults at risk;
  • A high quality standard of care that is responsive to the individual need of the young adult or adult at risk.
  • Partnership working with the Council’s Leaving Care Service, Disabilities services, and housing services as well as other agencies, to meet the needs of young adult.
  • Services to meet the needs of every young adult and adult at risk in accordance with their individual and diverse historical and cultural background.
  • Training, employment, enterprise or higher education through our in house adult adviser and BE College.
  • Appropriate accommodation with terms of placement or tenancy agreed beforehand, assisting with preparation and planning for the move and facilitating the actual move where needed.
  • A partnership approach with Health Services, Education providers, Social work, therapist and families in the best interest of the young adult and adults at risk..
  • Competent support staff that are sensitive to the needs and pre-placement experiences of young adult and adults at risk.

Semi Independence Programmes


SIS provides Semi-Independence programmes tailored to meet the needs of each individual young adult. Each young adult/adult at risk will complete a preparation for independence programme at an appropriate pace that prepares for adult life.


SIS and SIS LIFE support young adults at risk with daily living responsibilities such as shopping, cooking, claiming benefits, money management, laundry, job and college applications, using public transport. Also, when appropriate, help keep young adults at risk in touch with their families. 


Additional Services Provided


SIS emergency/bridging placements are available to young adult who are in need of a short-term placement at short notice. This includes young adult who present challenging behaviour, sexualized behaviour and young adult with offending history.


SIS LIFE offers short term respite care that is planned to gradually introduce planned independent living for young adults with mild to moderate learning needs or a mental health disorder.
